Chinese tea health benefits

Did you know that Chinese tea offers so many health benefits? We discovered this and so much more about the most popular varieties of Chinese teas in Hong Kong with Ellen, the shopkeeper at Tea Art Gallery tea house in Wan Chai.

Ellen explained to us that certain teas should be drunk during certain seasons. Green tea, for example, should only be drunk in the warm summer months. She also explained that we should not get so hooked on drinking tea for a certain effect, i.e. green tea for the antioxidants and possible anti-cancer benefits. She said we should drink a variety of teas and enjoy them. The benefits will just happen.

Either way, I am going to keep drinking my favorite green matcha tea.

When asked which tea is best for slimming benefits, Ellen immediately directed us to Chinese pu-erh tea, which has been shown to burn fat and raise metabolism. I found out that ideally, you should drink pu-erh tea one hour after eating to help the body eliminate excess fats.

Oolong tea is also very popular in Hong Kong and is also found to burn fat, detoxify the body and prevent tooth decay.

Ellen didn’t speak much about white tea, however we also know that it also may have anti-cancer benefits and help fight cardiovascular disease like green tea.

Watch the replay to see Ellen’s full explanation of her teas as well as take a look at some of the exotic teapots on display which are amazing works of art.

Thank you for joining us today, inviting your Periscope family and sharing on your social networks. I hope you learned as much as I did today about Chinese tea health benefits and what it can do for you.

You can find the Tea Art Gallery at Shop 44/G 151 – 163 Wan Chai Road in Hong Kong.
